Coming Sunday

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. Linda's message will be “Don’t Let God Speak to Us!” The choir will sing “Banquet of Love.” We will collect the World Communion Offering, which will be used to support reconciliation work locally and around the globe. Please wear any clothing that came from overseas. If you have any fabric from another country, please bring it to display at the front of the church.

In Sunday School this week, Linda will continue sharing her experience with PCUSA General Assembly, and many of the decisions reached there. Please come with questions.

Linda will leave after church to attend an Advent Preaching Workshop in Charleston, WV. She will be back on Tuesday.

Celebration Day

We celebrated Aran and Darrell’s nuptials during fellowship time last Sunday with cupcakes and other goodies. 

Blacksburg Give A Chance

Northside is once again participating in The Solomon Organization's Annual Blacksburg Give a Chance Charitable Giveaway Event! You may vote once per day for one non-profit and voting closes on October 16. There are 57 organizations participating so you might need to scroll a bit to find Northside Monday Night Suppers.

After voting closes, organizations are entered into the live Give A Chance Event on November 4th, where prize wheel drawings determine the final donation amounts. Each organization gets a slice on the wheel with the size determined by the number of votes received. This just increases the chance of the clicker ending on a space, but it is random so small organizations have a chance to win a prize. The Grand Prize is $10,000, with two second place prizes of $5,000, and two third place prizes of $2,500. Even those who don't win will receive a donation from Solomon, the company that manages Foxridge and Windsor Hills apartments.

Upcoming Services

Please mark your calendars with these dates as we remember those who have passed away. A memorial service for Rev. Dr. Hugh Springer, a former pastor of Northside, is scheduled for Saturday, October 10, at 11 a.m. There will also be a memorial service on Saturday, October 31 for long-time member Emily Bender. Both services will be at Northside. Details will be available closer to those dates.

Monday Night Supper

The meal on Monday was chilidogs with cheese, salad, chips, fruit cup, and cookies. We served 67 meals. Helpers included Marge and George, Stella, Barbara, Susan, Pam, Alex C., and Heidi and Bruce.

Volunteers to help prepare and pack meals are always welcome and needed.
